Some Mario enemies are based on Octoroks. These includes Octolots from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Chuckoroks from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Squiglets from Super Paper Mario, and Octoombas from Super Mario Galaxy. The Octopuses of the latter game even used a corrupted version of Octorok's name in the Japanese version.
In the Mario franchise, Octoroks make a cameo appearance in The Legend of Zelda microgame from WarioWare: Twisted!, where they shoot at Link. In Super Mario-kun, they make a cameo in an issue.
