However, they still retain a couple details from their previous, more Monty Mole-like design, such as the white stomach, and their goggles being round.

Rocky Wrenches firstmake appeartheir debut in ''[[Super Mario Bros. 3]]'' as enemies that can be found on [[airship]]s, [[tank]]s, and shipsother military vehicles belonging to the [[Koopa Troop]]. Upon sighting either [[Mario]] or [[Luigi]], a Rocky Wrench will pop out of its hole on these vehicles and throw wrenches at them before descending back into their hole. Rocky Wrenches also are also a major recurring enemy in the final world of the game, [[Dark Land]].

AIn ''[[Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3]]'', a Rocky Wrench appears on the cover and title screen for the [[Super Mario Brosgame. 3: Super Mario Advance 4|GBA remake]].Additionally, Rocky Wrenches also appear in a few [[World-e]] levels as well.

Rocky Wrenches reappear in ''[[Super Mario 3D Land]]'', being their first appearance in a 3D title. Though they are commonly found in airship stages as usual, Rocky Wrenches also appear in severala couple regular levels as well. Rocky Wrench's appearance in this game is the same as in ''New Super Mario Bros. Wii,'' and they still conduct their usual wrench- throwing tactics. However, some Rocky Wrenches can now also throw either [[Bob-omb]]s or [[coin]]s instead of their namesake wrenches. Sometimes, a Rocky Wrench can be seen guarding a [[Warp Pipe]], in-whichwhere the Rocky Wrenchplayer needs to bedefeat defeatedthe Rocky Wrench in- order to enter the pipe. Unlike other games, the wrenches that Rocky Wrenches throw in this game can be stomped on and destroyed harmlessly.

Rocky Wrenches reappear in ''[[Super Mario Run]]'', appearing only in [[Throwing It All Overboard]] in the main game. Additionally, they can occasionally appear in the [[Airship]] courses seen in [[Toad Rally]] and [[Remix 10]]. Rocky Wrenches retain their behavior and design from ''New Super Mario Bros. Wii'', though they can also sometimes throw coins instead of wrenches like in ''Super Mario 3D Land''. Rocky Wrenches also come back out of the ground much quicker than they do in most games, almost immediately after they go down. Additionally, Rockythere Wrench hasis a statue of a Rocky Wrench that can be purchased in the [[Kingdom Builder]].

Rocky Wrenches make variousa couple minor appearances in the ''[[Super Mario (Kodansha manga)|Super Mario]]'' Kodansha manga, where they are based on their ''[[Super Mario Bros. 3]]'' design.

A singular Rocky Wrench makes an appearance in the third ''[[Super Mario Land]]'' volume, inwhere they appear as part of [[Bowser]]'s baseball team when Bowser he challenges [[Mario]] to play baseball alongside his other minions. Despite that, the Rocky Wrench is never shown playing the baseball game onscreen.

A Rocky Wrench makes a minor cameo in the ''[[Super Mario All-Stars]]'' chapter from the second ''[[Donkey Kong (Game Boy)|Donkey Kong]]'' volume., Thewhere Rockythey Wrench appearsappear in the background alongside several ofother minions working for Bowser's and [[Wart]]'s minions.

In the ''[[Nintendo Adventure Books]]'', a Rocky Wrench carrying a handbag around competes in the [[International Mushroom Games]] as a member of a team called the [[Sneaks]] in ''[[Leaping Lizards]]''. True to his team's name, he uses underhanded tactics in the events, such as cutting a hole in [[Roy Koopa]]'s [[magic carpet|flying carpet]] during the obstacle course, andas alsowell as throwing ink in his face during the [[Beetlebowl]]. The Rocky Wrench is also very skilled at most of the sports, usually winning a majority of them if the player chooses the wrong path. Rocky Wrench's name also appears in a crossword puzzle (though it is shortened to "Rocky"). The artwork used in said puzzle is reused from ''[[Super Mario Bros. Print World]]''. Rocky Wrench is also called a rodent in this book and the following one.

AAnother Rocky Wrench appears as the guard of the [[Monster Mixer]] in ''[[Monster Mix-Up]]''. They first make a brief cameo briefly spotting [[Mario]] and [[Toad]] on the side of the bowl that is carrying the Monster Mixer. Later on, if Mario attempts to use a [[Shell|Koopa Shell]] to hit a [[Super Star|Starman]] [[Block]], he will miss the block and cause the shell willto hit the Rocky Wrench on the head instead. This causes the Rocky Wrench to godrop unconscious, makingon themthe ground and drop their wrench into the Monster Mixer., causing [[Bowser]] getsto get mad at what Mario did right before the Monster Mixer blows up, leading to a [[Game Over]]. Rocky Wrenches are also one of the few enemies in the book to not have a fusion created by the Monster Mixer.

A singular Rocky Wrench cameosmakes a brief cameo in ''[[Super Mario Bros. & Friends: When I Grow Up]]'', where they appear on the Race Car Driver and Mechanic page. TheTheir description reads as follows:

Starting with the [[Pirate Tour]] from ''[[Mario Kart Tour]]'', Rocky Wrenches would reappear in [[Airship Fortress]], where they retain their tactics from ''Mario Kart DS'' and ''Mario Kart 7'', though they appear with their modern design like in ''Mario Kart 7''. However, unlike in previous ''Mario Kart'' games, driving into a Rocky Wrench knocks the Rocky Wrench back into their hole and grants the player bonus points instead of causing them to spin out. As shown in a piece of concept art, Rocky Wrenches were at one point going to be one of the members of the [[Koopa Troop]] to be featured in ''[[The Super Mario Bros.
