Boomerang Mario

Boomerang Mario is a transformation introduced in the Nintendo 3DS title Super Mario 3D Land, and returns in the Wii U title Super Mario 3D World. It is based on the Boomerang Bro., making it similar to Hammer Mario, which is based on the Hammer Bro.. Mario becomes Boomerang Mario after obtaining a Boomerang Flower. With the Boomerang suit, Mario can throw one boomerang at a time to defeat enemies, destroy projectiles, and collect items from a distance. Mario can also jump and move away from it to dodge the boomerang and allow it to move back and forth continuously before collecting it. If a Boomerang is destroyed in any way while one is being tossed, Mario must wait a moment before he can toss another (a brief glimmer of light signifies that he can toss another boomerang). Unlike the Hammer Suit, Boomerang Mario can only defeat enemies Fire Mario can defeat (as well as Bullet Bills and Banzai Bills).
The Boomerang power-up makes a return in Super Mario 3D World, where it behaves the same as in the prequel, though with a few minor differences. In addition to the boomerang having larger range, it is now colored depending on the character using the power-up, (red for Mario, pink for Peach, etc.) Also, the outfit's helmet color and shell color will be changed for each character, (such as Luigi's having a teal shell and helmet, Peach's having a magenta shell, helmet, and boot, Toad having Mario's Boomerang suit with a blue boomerang, Rosalina's having a cyan shell, helmet, and boots), though Mario is still seen with the usual blue armor.

Trivia
- Though a new power-up in the series, Mario is able to use a Boomerang in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 by scanning the Boomerang e-Card from the e-Reader or by taking it from a defeated Boomerang Bro. that threw blue Boomerangs. The boomerang's design is based on said boomerang. Its moves are also similar as well.
- The boomerangs used look similar to the Magic Boomerang from The Legend of Zelda.
