Europe is a continent located on Earth in the real world, and features several famous countries such as the United Kingdom, France, and Italy. The first Mario-related appearance of Europe is in the The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 episode "7 Continents for 7 Koopas." In the games, Europe technically made its debut in NES Open Tournament Golf, as it includes the United Kingdom as a playable course.

History

The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3

In "7 Continents for 7 Koopas," Europe is represented by the Louvre. When King Koopa tries to conquer the entire Real World, he puts Kootie Pie Koopa under control of Europe. Kootie Pie uses her magic wand to turn all of the Louvre's famous paintings, such as Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Sandro Botticelli's The Birth of Venus, and Marcel Duchamp's Nude Descending a Staircase into the Mona Kootie, the Birth of Kootie, and Kootie Descending a Staircase. Mario later steals Kootie Pie's magic wand and uses it to make The Birth of Kootie flood the Louvre, driving Kootie Pie away.

Europe was later visited in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3's final two episodes: "The Venice Menace" and "Super Koopa," which take place in Venice, Italy and Paris, France, respectively.

Mario & Sonic series

Two Mario & Sonic titles take place in a European country: Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, set in London, England, and Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, set in Sochi, Russia.
