Kid Icarus is a series of action-adventure games created by Nintendo and themed around Greek mythology. Consisting of three games, Kid Icarus was a dormant franchise for many years until Masahiro Sakurai, director of the Super Smash Bros. series, redesigned and incorporated many of its elements in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Kid Icarus: Uprising, the latter of which features many Nintendo in-jokes and references, including those related to the Mario franchise. Kid Icarus has mainly crossed over with the Mario franchise within the Super Smash Bros. games.
