Mariopedia:About

Mariopedia is a wiki about the Mario franchise. Since it is the mascot of Nintendo, the scope naturally extends out to other series and franchises, such as Super Smash Bros. and Donkey Kong. It was founded by The RPG Gamer on June 16, 2021, and it had the url supermariowiki.miraheze.org. Their reason for creating the wiki was to base it on the Super Mario Wiki back in the 2000s and early 2010s. Later that year, the url was renamed to mario.miraheze.org, per Eeyore the Iowan Goat's suggestion. On April 26, 2022, also per Eeyore the Iowan Goat's suggestion, the wiki has been renamed to Mariopedia and given a new domain, mariopedia.org.

Mariopedia aims to derive its style from Pokémon Wiki, Zeldapedia, and Final Fantasy Wiki in the 2000s and early 2010s. Part of why Eeyore the Iowan Goat decided on this is because he wondered what a successful Mario-related wiki on Wikia would have looked like in the 2000s. In fact, the name Mariopedia was derived from Zeldapedia, while mariopedia.org is a play on Halopedia's domain, halopedia.org. However, there is an earlier instance of a wiki named Mariopedia that was created on editthis.info by a few Super Mario Wiki users in early 2007.

On May 25, 2022, Mariopedia has received a background based on that of the Super Mario Wiki's, a few days before their Monobook background was changed to the one on their Vector skin.

On December 5, 2024, Mariopedia's main page was redesigned to reuse that of the Pokémon Wiki's from late 2007, since Eeyore the Iowan Goat feels more comfortable with adopting a Pokémon-inspired format.
