That was not theorized, Masahiro Sakurai did said this in his Awards Ceremony & Developer Discussion that he does not add any non-video game originated characters in SSB franchise like Goku, Iron Man, SpongeBob, Shrek, etc. Mickey, Donald, & Goofy are counted. There's still some articles that Kingdom Hearts players that have no idea about SSB & why Sakurai replaces the three iconic Disney characters in the Mural. KH is currently the only franchise in SSB with ties to non-video game characters.
