Trivia
* Saffron City is actually a city in the games Pokémon Red & Pokémon Blue. The town houses the sixth Gym Leader, Sabrina, as well as the Silph Co. Building, where the stage is set.
* Silph Co.'s name on the building is spelled as "Silf" in the Japanese version.
* Saffron City is the only stage in Super Smash Bros. that did not return in Super Smash Bros. Melee, or have a stage that was extremely similar in Melee; however, some compare it to Fourside.
** Also, the banner on the left side is slightly altered between both versions. The Japanese banner has an example of Engrish in which it reads "Got a Catch 'em All!".
* The city seems to be modeled from the Pokémon anime, as the games do not show so much details in any city (not even in cities considered "big", like Celadon or Goldenrod).
* There is also a mountain range very deep into the background, which seems to represent Mt. Moon, Cerulean Cave and Rock Tunnel altogether, which are way north of Saffron (and Cerulean City as well).
* Saffron City is the only stage in Super Smash Bros. that did not return in Super Smash Bros. Melee, or have a stage that was extremely similar in Melee; however, some compare it to Fourside, as both have the battle happens atop high buildings.
* Saffron City shares its name with a chef in Super Paper Mario.
