The '''Battlefield Fortress''' is an area in the [[Subspace Emissary]] mode of ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]''. It is the stage in which [[Marth]] and [[Meta Knight]] make their debut in the Subspace Emissary. During the story, Marth sees a subspace explosion nearby the fortress, created by the [[Subspace Bomb]]. Shortly after, the [[Ancient Minister]] drops [[Shadowbugs]] across the area, creating [[Primid]]s that continue to march towards the fortress. Marth then prepares to head out and fight the Subspace Army. If played in co-op, the second player will take control of a second Marth. Once he reaches the end, Marth is attacked by Meta Knight, both of them believing the other is working for the Subspace Army. However, after a short duel, the two realize they are on the same side, and join forces to defeat the rest of the army in the area. After finally catching up to the Ancient Minister, they both fail to stop him from carrying another Subspace Bomb to another location. However, [[Ike]] suddenly appears, and uses [[Aether]] to break and deactivate the bomb, forcing the Ancient Minister to flee. Ike joins the group, and the three continue to catch the Ancient Minister, but fail to catch up with him after he hovers over a cliff.

As the outside of the castle is seen, many arrows and catapults are laying around in the sand. A [[Subspace Bomb]] is seen, with two [[R.O.B.|R.O.B.S]] activating the bomb. It sucks in sand, possibly along with many of the fallen arrows. The [[Ancient Minister]] had dropped the bomb, and while he floats away with another bomb, many [[Primids]] pop out from the sand, heading towards the castle. Atop the castle, a lone person is seen: [[Marth]], whom raises his sword in the air, which flashes. He then ventures from the inside of the castle to the outside. Later, he stands in front of Subspace, but he glares to the right after hearing something. He prepares his sword, and [[Meta Knight]] flies downards, engaging in a sword fight. This is soon interrupted by Primids, who jump on the back of the two, are cut in half by both swords. They form a team, and defeat the army of Primids. They then chase the Minister, whom has another bomb. As the two try to cut the bomb off of him, they both failed. But, the sword [[Aether]] is thrown behind him, where [[Ike]] jumps and slashes, which cuts the connection of the bomb to the Minister (who then flies off like a rocket). The three form a swordsmen team, and chase after the Minister, only to fail. They then head to [[The Wilds]].
