Throughout the ''Sonic the Hedgehog'' series it has made numerous appearances in many games, including ''[[SonicRetro:Sonic Adventure 2|Sonic Adventure 2]]'', ''[[SonicRetro:Sonic Battle|Sonic Battle]]'', ''[[SonicRetro:Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood|Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood]]'' and ''[[SonicRetro:Sonic Generations|Sonic Generations]]''. In other games in the series, various levels including [[SonicRetro:Emerald Hill Zone|Emerald Hill Zone]] from ''[[SonicRetro:Sonic the Hedgehog 2|Sonic the Hedgehog 2]]'' and [[Seaside Hill]] from ''[[SonicRetro:Sonic Heroes|Sonic Heroes]]'' are based off Green Hill Zone, having the same kind of green grass and checkered soil.

In the "Gallery" section of ''[[Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games]]'', one of the two backgrounds for the Count Master [[mini-game]] is Green Hill Zone; it appears in the second, fourth and final levels. The background music of the Green Hill Zone can optionally be heard in the game, once it has been unlocked.

Green Hill Zone also appears in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]'' as aan unlockable stage. It is automatically unlocked when the player unlocks [[Sonic the Hedgehog]]. In the stage background, [[Miles "Tails" Prower]], [[Knuckles the Echidna]], and [[Silver the Hedgehog]] often appear running aroundthrough the loop. If the terrain is attacked too often, a section of it will collapse, but it can eventually repair itself. A [[checkpoint]] from the ''Sonic'' games occasionally appears on the stage, which temporarily spins when attacked and can dealdeals damage to opponents. The stage is also featured as a returning stage in ''[[Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS]]'' / Wiiand U|''[[Super Smash Bros. forUltimate]]'', Nintendoas 3DSa default stage. The [[Final Destination]] form of Green Hill Zone is set on a flat platform; the checkpoints also do not appear. In ''Super Smash Bros. Brawl'', the unlock match for Sonic takes place here.
