'''Mariopedia''' is a wiki about the [[Mario (franchise)|''Mario'' franchise]] and its closely related series, such as ''[[Super Smash Bros. (series)|Super Smash Bros.]]'' and ''[[Banjo-Kazooie (franchise)|Banjo-Kazooie]]''. It was founded by [[User:HannahMontanaFan|HannahMontanaFan]] on June 16, 2021, and it had the url <code>supermariowiki.miraheze.org</code>. Their reason for creating the wiki was to base it on the [https://www.mariowiki.com/ Super Mario Wiki] back in the 2000s and early 2010s. Later that year, the url was renamed to <code>mario.miraheze.org</code>, per [[User:Bawitdaba|Bawitdaba]]'s suggestion. On April 26, 2022, also per Bawitdaba's suggestion, the wiki has been renamed to Mariopedia and given a new domain, <code>mariopedia.org</code>.

Aside from early Super Mario Wiki, Mariopedia also derives some of its style and inspiration from [https://zelda-archive.fandom.com/ Zeldapedia] as well as [https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/ Final Fantasy Wiki] in the 2000s and early 2010s. Part of why Bawitdaba decided on this is because he wondered what a successful ''Mario''-related wiki on Wikia would have looked like in the 2000s. In fact, the name Mariopedia was derived from Zeldapedia whereas mariopedia.org is a play on Halopedia's domain, halopedia.org. However, there is an earlier instance of a wiki named [https://editthis.info/mariopedia/Main_Page Mariopedia] that was created on editthis.info by a few Super Mario Wiki users in early 2007.

On May 25, 2022, Mariopedia has received a background based on that of the Super Mario Wiki's, a few days before their Monobook background was changed to the one on their Vector skin.
