Microsoft is a large tech company that produces the Microsoft Windows line of computers and the Xbox line of video game consoles. Since 2002, when Microsoft bought the entirety of Rare Ltd. for $375 million, Banjo-Kazooie and Conker games have been released exclusively for Xbox consoles, as the buyout gave Microsoft the rights to both game franchises.

Around the time of acquiring Rare, a few of Microsoft's executives excitedly thought that they also acquired the rights to the Donkey Kong franchise, but were corrected by Rare.[1]
