Characteristics
Being moles, Monty Moles spend most of their time beneath the ground. They do not act much differently from moles in the real world, and are not blind. On some occasions, a Monty Mole opens its eyes, particularly when it gets shocked or startled. Monty Moles are bipedal, and this allows them to pick up objects and use them, such as in Super Mario 64, where their attack is to pick up and throw rocks at Mario. Monty Moles also seem to have a happy and cheerful personality in some games such as most of their playable appearances and in Hotel Mario. Monty Moles also seem to have an affinity for sports. Monty Moles love baseball, and according to their Mario Superstar Baseball description, they usually hop out of their dens due to getting fired up for a game of baseball (and they sometimes get too fired up when they get the ball). Although not explicitly said, Monty Moles also seem to like soccer as they are playable in Mario Strikers Charged. Monty Moles also have an affinity for golf, as the Monty Mole NPCs in Mario Golf: World Tour and Mario Golf: Super Rush usually give golf tips to the player and talk about their experience playing it. In some appearances, Monty Moles talk with a country accent (though in some other appearances they talk normally like most other characters). Monty Moles tend to live most commonly in cave areas (such as 5-4 and Breezy Tunnel), mountain areas (such as Tall, Tall, Mountain and Cookie Mountain), grassland areas (such as Sunbeam Plains and Yoshi Hill), and farm areas (such as Moo Moo Farm and Moo Moo Meadows), though occasionally they can be found in other areas as well.
