They are either a variant or an alternate interpretationalias of [[Piranha Plant]]s that have a {{wp|jack-o-lantern}} for a bud. They replace Piranha Plants once [[Mario]] and [[Luigi]] have completed the [[Special World]]. A Pumpkin Plant's relation to a Piranha Plant is the same as a [[Jumping Pumpkin Plant]]'s relation to a [[Jumping Piranha Plant]] in that they behave the same but that their main difference is their appearance.
