Sand Crabs, also named Crabs, are a type of enemy in The Legend of Zelda franchise, specifically within some of the games with an overhead camera, and are the most common type of crab within the franchise. Sand Crabs first appear in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. They are nimble enemies, but can quickly be defeated by Link, especially from a sword attack.
History
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
In The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Sand Crabs are found in the Light World, along the shores of Lake Hylia and just outside Zora's Lake. Although they are easy to defeat, they deal a significant amount of damage if they should hit Link. This, combined with their quick sideways walking speed, makes them a fairly dangerous enemy, especially early in the game before Link has obtained many Heart Containers. They are also an answer to a clue in the Quest for the Whirlwind Sword Attack in the Game Boy Advance version.
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Sand Crabs are encountered on Toronbo Shores. Their attack power is not the same as in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, although they retain their quickness and random movement pattern.
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons / Ages
In The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, Sand Crabs have a similar behavior and appearance as in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. In the former game, a few Crabs can be found on the Western Coast, and in the latter, a few are found on Crescent Island, specifically the southeastern part of the map.
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
In The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, Sand Crabs can be found along the shores of various locations, predominantly in The Coast stage of Eastern Hyrule. If the Links go near a Sand Crab, it rushes at him horizontally, although Sand Crabs do not move vertically.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
In The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Crabs appear identical to their The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past counterparts.
