Skeeters make another reappearance in ''[[New Super Mario Bros.]]'', but they receive another overhaul in appearance; they are now fat and red, instead of gangly-legged and blue. They appear in two levels, [[World 3-A (NSMBNew Super Mario Bros.)|3-A]] and [[World 8-2 (NSMBNew Super Mario Bros.)|8-2]]. They skate aimlessly across the water, and drop '''Skull Bombs''', which actually do not explode and instead smash through blocks. The explosion can also destroy [[block]]s. The Skull Bombs are in fact helpful, as they give access to two [[Star Coin]]s (one normally, and one mini [[Warp Pipe|pipe]], which held one). They and their Skull Bombs release [[Coin]]s if hit with a [[fireball]] from a [[Fire Flower]]. Only the red part of their bodies can damage Mario or [[Luigi]].
