Modifying the games where they are called Swoops, also, some recent games (such as NSMBUD and MKT) have them under their traditional name. SwoopsSwoopers (namedalso called SwoopersSwoops in earlier appearances), are vampire bats that first appeared in Super Mario World. Since then, Swoops have appeared in several other games, including main-stream and spin-off ones. A similar species known as Buckies also appears in Donkey Kong Jungle Beat.

In Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, New Super Mario Bros., Super Paper Mario and New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and various other games, they would hang on the ceiling and when Mario or Luigi came near, they fall and fly, hurting the heroes on contact.
