Teake is a character in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Teake is a Gerudo soldier Captain who can be found at the barracks in Gerudo Town in the Gerudo Desert region of Hyrule. She leads the Gerudo soldiers and guards that protect Gerudo settlements such as Gerudo Town and Kara Kara Bazaar a century after the Great Calamity under the direction of Gerudo Chief Riju and her personal adviser/bodyguard Buliara.

Biography

Teake apparently became Captain after the retirement of her predecessor Risa. She serves as Gerudo Captain a century after the Great Calamity when Link the Hylian Champion awakens from the Slumber of Restoration. Unfortunately following Divine Beast Vah Naboris reappearance after a century of dormancy, the Sheikah Yiga Clan that follow Ganon due to past mistreatment by the Hyrulean people over fears regarding the potential misuse of Sheikah technology attacked and broke through Gerudo Town's defenses to steal the chief's heirloom the Thunder Helm. Having once been a tribe of thieves, the Gerudo Soldiers felt great shame over their inability to prevent the theft. As Buliara refused to leave Riju's side after a Sand Seal surfing accident that occurred while Riju was investigating Vah Naboris' reappearance with her Sand Seal Patricia who got spooked by a monster while Riju was returning home following her investigation which Buliara blamed on herself,

Teake was put in charge of tracking down the thieves and recovering the helm to restore Gerudo honor a task which she and her soldiers took very seriously though the Yiga Clan were formidable adversaries and skilled assassins. However there was also the looming threat of Vah Naboris which rampaged through Gerudo Desert so Teake was forced to keep a good portion of hef troops within Gerudo Town to defend it should Vah Naboris attack. However she wisely had her troops stationed in the barracks train day and night while gathering intelligence on the Yiga Clan to discover their hideout while Riju and Buliara focused on how to stop Vah Naboris as they would stand little change of successfully defending against an ancient god-like machine originally designed to combat Calamity Ganon, as only a Champion or descendant of one can completely control a Divine Beast with the Scourges of the Divine Beasts forced to imprison the murdered Champions spirits in order to corrupt and control the Divine Beasts though unfortunately Urbosa had no known descendants and the stolen Thunder Helm was the only armor capable of enduring Vah Naboris' artificial lightning, thus Riju and Buliara were at a loss as to how to pacify Vah Naboris.

After sneaking into Gerudo Town disguised as a Hylian girl and meeting Riju, Link convinces Riju to let him assist the Gerudo in stopping the rampaging Vah Naboris even after Riju and Buliara deduce Link's true gender based on their historical knowledge of the Champions though fortunately Riju decides to keep Link's violation of Gerudo law a secret due to his association with Urbosa and Princess Zelda though force him to remain in disguise and Buliara suggests he assist them in retrieving the Thunder Helm from the Yiga Clan as a simple test to prove he truly is the hero of legend. Buliara directs Link to speak with Captain Teake to learn more.

Under the impression Link is a Hylian vai, Teake and her soldiers tell "her" their intel on the location of the Yiga Clan Hideout hidden in Karusa Valley. Thanks to the intel they provide, Link infiltrates the hideout and slays Yiga Clan leader Kohga to retrieve the Thunder Helm which Riju uses to assist Link in entering Vah Naboris allowing him to avenge Urbosa by slaying her killer Thunderblight Ganon freeing Urbosa's imprisoned spirit allowing her to retake control of Vah Naboris. Meanwhile Teake continues to lead ger soldiers in combating the leaderless Yiga Clan and defending Gerudo Town from any further attacks. After assisting Riju's people with various problems including locating the missing soldier Barta, Riju allows Link to borrow the Thunder Helm allowing Teake and her soldiers to focus all their efforts on defending the town and hunting the Yiga Clan due to the Helm being in the hands of a capable and trusted ally. However she is still under the impression Link is a Hylian girl as he continues to disguise himself in order to enter Gerudo Town to preserve Gerudo law and cultural tradition as Riju and Buliara publicly maintain Link's secret.

Link ultimately defeats Ganon with the support of his deceased comrades' spirits and Princess Zelda who seals Dark Beast Ganon after he is defeated. Presumably after Ganon's defeat, Teake under Riju and Buliara's orders assists the last remaining Knight of Hyrule and his allies in combating the remnants of the Yiga Clan and monsters as Link and Zelda work to rebuild the Kingdom of Hyrule and the Hyrulean army that had been all but decimated during the Great Calamity.

Given her rank she can be seen as Link's modern day counterpart within the Gerudo military as Link is the surviving Captain of Princess Zelda's Royal Guard within the Knights of Hyrule though Buliara serves as Riju's personal bodyguard while Captain Teake commands the soldiers and guards.

Abilities

As a Gerudo Captain she wields the Radiant Shield awarded to all Gerudo soldiers who attain the rank of Captain. She complements her shield by wielding a Moonlight Scimitar (which can be seen as a companion to the Radiant Shield). She fights using the same traditional sword and shield based fighting style popularized by Gerudo Champion and Chieftain Urbosa and is capable enough to defend herself and knock Link off his feet if he attacks her. However her abilities as a swordswomen are implied to be below Buliara who wields a Golden Claymore which only the most talented Gerudo swordswomen can wield and her predecessor Risa also holds Buliara in high regard as she believes the theft would have been foiled had Buliara been on the frontlines during the attack. Risa also claims the theft could have never occurred when she was Captain and is very vocal in her criticism of Teake and her soldiers' inability to prevent the theft though Risa does recognize that Buliara being preoccupied with guarding Riju also played a role in the Yiga Clan being so successful and simply holds her successor to high standards as it is her duty to protect Gerudo Town as Captain of the Guard. However given how formidable the Yiga Clan are and the threat posed by Vah Naboris, Teake was forced to deal with two threats at once limiting her options and wisely decided to train her soldiers following their failure while gathering intel and even supplied Link with the information her troops had gathered allowing the Hero to retrieve the Thunder Helm while Teake and her troops remained to defend Gerudo Town showing wisdom and humility by allowing a Hylian to aid in its retrieval after Riju and Buliara tasked the Hylian with retrieving it. However unlike Buliara she like Risa was fooled by Link's disguise though Riju and Buliara were fooled at first before they managed to deduce Link's gender upon recognizing the Hylian's status as a Champion and association with Princess Zelda.
