The Xbox is a home video game console created by Microsoft Gaming Studios. It is the first and titular system within the Xbox line, and is Microsoft's entry point into the game console market. Its two main competitors were the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube. The end result is that it was outsold by the former but not the latter. The Xbox was first released in North America on November 15, 2001, then in other regions in early 2002.
Being a competitor to a Nintendo console, no games within the Mario franchise were released for it. The only Mario-related title to release for it was Conker: Live & Reloaded, a remake of Conker's Bad Fur Day that features its own Xbox Live & Co. campaign. Banjo X, a remake of Banjo-Kazooie, was also planned, although the concept was scrapped and finalized as the Xbox 360 title Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, the third main installment of the Banjo-Kazooie series.
