Generators[1] are undulating, smoking masses of goop that house a Polluted Piranha Plant in Super Mario Sunshine.

A Generator always has a large object, usually a building, hidden beneath it. They appear on the Delfino Airstrip and in Delfino Plaza, Bianco Hills, and Ricco Harbor. Brown and black generators can spawn Swoopin' Stus, and black ones continually replenish the goop surrounding them them. A Generator always matches the color of the Goop surrounding it. If Mario sprays a Generator for a few seconds with FLUDD's Squirt Nozzle, a Polluted Piranha Plant emerges from it. A Generator cannot be sprayed away. Once Mario defeats the Polluted Piranha Plant, the Generator and its surrounding Goop disappear, and the object buried beneath it rises back out.

The Generators that appear over Delfino Plaza's boathouse and lighthouse generate goop, hence their name, that cannot be permanently cleaned until it is destroyed by defeating its Polluted Piranha Plant; while it remains, the goop regenerates a moment after being cleaned. The Generators on the Delfino Airstrip, over the Grand Pianta Statue in Delfino Plaza, and in Bianco Hills do not have this property.

Bianco Hills's first episode, The Road to the Big Windmill, features a unique brown Generator that launches out goop-covered Piranhabons down the path in front of it every few seconds. If Mario is nearby, the Generator starts launching the Piranhabons in his direction. It stops launching them when Mario sprays it with F.L.U.D.D. and the Polluted Piranha appears. If Mario doesn't fight the Polluted Piranha, it will retreat back into the Generator, which will then begin launching Piranhabons again. In the same mission, there is a smaller brown Generator found in the grass in the middle of Windmill Village, separate from the other Goop, and it spawns Strollin' Stus endlessly. If Mario sprays this Generator for long enough, it pops like a bubble.
