In the Super Mario Wiki, Rocky Wrench is listed as being a species of [[Koopa (species)|Koopa]]. Although in various early sources for Rocky Wrench called them a turtle (such as many official ''[[Super Mario Bros. 3]]'' related media and even the Writers Bible for ''[[The Adventure of Super Mario Bros. 3]]''), Rocky Wrenches were never called a Koopa in any of these sources. Some people say the Japanese ''Super Mario Bros. 3'' instruction booklet claimed that Rocky Wrench was a part of the Koopa species.
