Mariopedia is a wiki about the Mario franchise and its closely related series, such as Super Smash Bros. and Banjo-Kazooie. It was founded by HannahMontanaFan on June 16, 2021, and it had the url supermariowiki.miraheze.org. Their reason for creating the wiki was to base it on the Super Mario Wiki back in the 2000s and early 2010s. Later that year, the url was renamed to mario.miraheze.org, per Bawitdaba's suggestion. On April 26, 2022, also per Bawitdaba's suggestion, the wiki has been renamed to Mariopedia and given a new domain, mariopedia.org.

Aside from early Super Mario Wiki, Mariopedia also derives some of its style and inspiration from Zeldapedia as well as Final Fantasy Wiki in the 2000s and early 2010s. Part of why Bawitdaba decided on this is because he wondered what a successful Mario-related wiki on Wikia would have looked like in the 2000s. In fact, the name Mariopedia was derived from Zeldapedia whereas mariopedia.org is a play on Halopedia's domain, halopedia.org. Coincidentally, the Super Mario Wiki and Halopedia are the origin wikis of porplemontage, who hosts both wikis and is the founder of the former wiki.
