Unlike most Piranha Plants (including [[Piranhacus Giganticus]]), SuperMega Piranha Plants are never found inside [[Warp Pipe|pipes]] due to their gigantic size. [[Mario]] must shoot three [[fireball]]s at one to destroy them. When defeated in ''New Super Mario Bros.'', they give up eight [[coin]]s instead of the usual one coin. In the sequels, this is reduced to three coins. Another similar enemy that appears only in ''New Super Mario Bros. Wii'' is the [[Super Venus Fire Trap]].

In ''[[New Super Mario Bros. 2]]'', SuperMega Piranha Plants are among the enemies that are affected by the [[Gold Ring (New Super Mario Bros. 2)|Gold Ring]]. When defeated, the location they once stood upon spouts coins.
