A Meteor Smash is an attack in the Super Smash Bros. series that causes the enemy to fly downwards when hit. Because of this, they are usually difficult, though not impossible to recover from.

Examples of Spikes include Fox's d-air, Marth's d-air (NTSC only), Roy's tipped up smash, Ganondorf's Wizard's Foot (only in the air), Captain Falcon's d-air (the so-called Nipple spike if hit within the torso region), and Falco's d-air.

Meteor Smashes in Brawl

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Meteor Smashes are harder to Meteor Cancel, and there are no bonuses involving them; bonuses aren't awarded or recorded in this game. Also, the Footstool Jump acts as a Meteor Smash as well.
