Mario encounters these Monty Moles when he goes to see Petunia, who tells him they are digging up the ground where she lives, eating her seeds and biting her roots. At her behest, Mario defeats all the Monty Moles. After defeating all the Monty Moles, Mario receives the Magical Bean from Petunia asfor thankshelping her.

The Monty Moles function the exact same as their Mt. Rugged counterparts, with the only major difference being the increased health. When a Monty Mole is defeated, they can occasionally drop a Honey Syrup. These Monty Moles also have a specific weakness to the Hammer Throw attack, which will deal 3 more damage than a normal hammer strike. They are the only enemies in the entire game with this weakness.<ref>Stryder7x (October 25, 2019). Basic Battle Mechanics are Broken. YouTube.
