Kūchū Gessōs are an airborne variant of Bloopers that move around in midair much like how they do underwater. Kūchū Gessōs first appear in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, and have also appeared in its remakes.
Kūchū Gessō are first encountered in World 1-3. Mario or Luigi can defeat a Kūchū Gessō by jumping on it, throwing a fireball at it while in their Fire form, or touching a Kūchū Gessō while temporarily invincible via a Starman. Defeating a Kūchū Gessō earns Mario or Luigi 1000 points.
In the original Family Computer Disk System version, Kūchū Gessō are featured in a light pink color, and are decorated with light brown pixels. In the Super Mario All-Stars remake, both Kūchū Gessō and Bloopers are a hot pink color. In Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, Kūchū Gessō have a similar appearance as in the Family Computer Disk System version, but are slightly darker.
