Jumping Piranha Plants made their debut in Super Mario World as the most frequent Piranha Plant enemies in the game. They wait in their pipes and when the player goes close to the pipe, they jump out of the pipe or bushes. In some cases, they also spit two fireballs, which may shows the relation to the Venus Fire Trap from Super Mario Bros. 3. These Jumping Piranha Plants are called Jumping Venus Fire Traps.

After the Special World has been completed, Jumping Piranha Plants turn into Jumping Pumpkin Plants.

Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3

Jumping Piranha Plants return in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3, the GBA remake of Super Mario Bros. 3 (which is the prequel Super Mario World). They only appear in World-e's e-Reader accessible level, Dig! Dig! Dig Through!!. The Jumping Piranha Plants behave exactly similar to that of Super Mario World, though their appearance is pretty much identical to Super Mario Bros. 3 's original Piranha Plant species, save for their propeller-like leaf.
