Kremlings (also known as Krems or Krocs)[1] are a crocodilian species native to Crocodile Isle. They are an antagonistic species who serve in the Kremling Krew, as K. Rool's minions, and often cause trouble for the Kongs to gain their resources, such as bananas. Kremlings first appear in Donkey Kong Country. The most common type of Kremling is Kritter, which have sometimes been named Kremlings themselves.
Kremlings also made a few appearances in various sports titles in the Mario series. Kremlings can be seen in the background of the DK Jungle Court in Mario Power Tennis; they take on the role of goalies in Super Mario Strikers and Mario Strikers Charged, while in Mario Super Sluggers, they appear as team players.
Biology
Kremlings are characterized by crocodile heads, sharp teeth, scaly skin, yellow bellies, tails, and three toes with pointy nails.
A majority of Kremlings are Kritters, which move on both legs and have arms with four fingers.[2] Creatures such as Klaptraps walk on all fours, like real-world crocodiles.[3] Krockheads are a type of Kremling found only in the swamp, and their head resembles that of a real-world crocodile's.[4]
History
Background information
The origin of the Kremling species was kept in a hidden place of Crocodile Isle called the Lost World where the Kritter race was a tribe and built traps with spears to protect the Krocodile Kore.[5][6][7] Just like any reptile, the Kremlings lived in the swamps of the home island.[8][9]
Another part of the Kremling population built a city called Kremlantis to hide from Snaps that invaded their homeland until it was wiped out by the flood.[10][11][12]
The evil Kremlings formed a pirate society called Kremling Kuthroats where they turn their home island into a pirate lair with the establishment of a town.[6][13][14] Undead Kremlings as the Kloak, Kackle and skeletal Kritters wear the worn out pirate outfits.[15] They also kept the stolen valuables in chests and stored them in caves where it shows in Krocodile Kore and Gloomy Galleon.[16] Kremlings would fight against Bears led by Bazooka during the Kremean War where it resulted in the eradication of the pirate class.[17][18][19]
During the Kremling Krew supremacy founded by K. Rool, they were characterized as a race of tough soldiers, wasters and conquerors.[6][20][21] This species has become advanced and able for produce machines and chemicals.[22] According to Klubba, the Kremlings are treated poorly by K. Rool.[23]
Donkey Kong franchise
Main series
Enmity with the Kongs began when the Kremlings supervised by Klump invade the Kong Island in search of resources.[24][25][26][27] Hard to know how, but Cranky Kong has knowledge about the Kremlings, K. Rool, and the home island.[28][29][30][31][32][33] At the combat in Crocodile Isle, the Kremling forces loyal to K. Rool suffered a devastating defeat at the hands of the Kong Family and losing their home island.
After of their home island was destroyed, most Kremlings had the technological advantage where they built their bases and fully advanced weaponry.[34][35][36] Even K. Rool had this advantage by creating the puppet leader KAOS to gather the remaining Kremlings that were sheltering in the Mekanos forming the temporary group called Kremling Kreeps.[37][38][39]
Despite being treated as the antagonistic race, there is a Kremling who has become an ally of the Kongs named K. Lumsy that is the K. Rool's younger brother.[40]
