A Pokey Sprout from Super Mario Sunshine. | |
First appearance | Super Mario Sunshine (2002) |
Latest appearance | Super Mario 3D All Stars (2020) |
Species origin | Pokey |
Pokey Sprouts are enemies appearing in Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario 3D All Stars. They are similar to a standard Pokey, but include only the head.
Unlike standard Pokeys, they cannot fall on Mario, as they are too small. Instead, they hide in the ground, pretending to be flowers, and jump out when the plumber approaches. They then hop towards Mario slowly. They can be defeated with a Jump or by being sprayed into a wall. This causes them to splat on the wall and produce three coins instead of one. In Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, similar creatures called Pokey Heads appear.

Trivia
- The overworld sprite of Pokeys in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time appears identical to a Pokey Sprout.
- They can be watered like normal flowers in Super Mario Sunshine before they attack, but this does not produce coins like a real flower. They do not make noises either.
