Back when ''[[Super Mario 3D Land]]'' first released, fans mistaken the [[Morty Mole]]s who appear in that game as [[Mega Mole]]s due to the both of them being enlarged [[Monty Mole]]s. However, Morty Moles have a different way of being defeated and extremely different designs to that of Mega Mole. However, Morty Moles seem to have been based on Mega Moles during development, as their filename is the Japanese name for Mega Mole, being "Indy."▼
However, big Monty Moles and Mega Monty Mole are completely separate as they both have different names in other languages (besides their Chinese names), with big Monty Moles also seemingly being a natural species while Mega Monty Mole is confirmed in ''[[Mario Party: Star Rush]]'' to being enlarged by [[Kamek]]. Super Choropū also seems to be an individual big Monty Mole (like [[Choropūko]]) rather than being a generic big Monty Mole due to their different name.
The enlarged Monty Moles in the second ''[[Mario Kart 64]]'' volume in ''[[4koma Manga Kingdom]]'' and the ones in hole 7 of [[Wiggler Park]] in ''[[Mario Golf: World Tour]]'' are also labeled as Mega Monty Moles on the ''Super Mario Wiki'', which is likely false as the name Mega Monty Mole was only used for the ''[[Mario Party (series)|Mario Party]]'' boss and never used for standard enlarged Monty Moles. However, it is unknown if these enlarged Monty Moles are meant to be big Monty Moles, as the former has a completely different design and appears larger, while the latter are far larger than standard big Monty Moles.
