Thwomp

Stone Elevator[1] is a flat, rectangular platform and a variant of Thwomp found exclusively in the The Legend of Zelda series. It only appears in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, and in both games, only one Stone Elevator makes an appearance. Although this is the case, a Stone Elevator is grouped alongside other enemies in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening's Nintendo Player's Guide,[1] suggesting that it is not a standalone character.

In both of its appearances, a Stone Elevator can drop if Link applies the right amount of weight onto it. A Stone Eleavtor serves more as an obstacle because it cannot damage Link, nor does it make any attempt to. Like the other Thwomps in The Legend of Zelda series, a Stone Elevator is only found in side-scrolling passages in a dungeon.

History

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and its reissues, one Stone Elevator appears near the end of Bottle Grotto, blocking a path. At first, the Stone Elevator looks just like a stone platform, but when Link stands on it, the Stone Elevator reveals its face, which shows an angry expression. In order to advance past the Stone Elevator, Link must pick up a pot using his Power Bracelet and place it onto the Stone Elevator, which then drops below as a result of the weight.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures

In The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, a Stone Elevator is found in The Mountain Path. Its appearance is relatively similar, but its body is light gray and its facial expression was changed to resemble that of a Thwomp's in the same game. Unlike its debut appearance, the Stone Elevator shows its face at all times, even if the Links are not standing on it. At least two Links are required to apply enough weight to get the Stone Elevator to drop. The speed of the Stone Elevator dropping depends on the number of Links standing on it.
