A Super Thwomp (also called a Rainbow Thwomp) is a rainbow variety of a Thwomp that appears to be enhanced by a Starman. They appear on the SNES Rainbow Road in Super Mario Kart as well as the course's remakes in Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Due to their powers, unlike a regular Thwomp, Super Thwomps can knock out players who simply collide with them and can make the track wobble.

Trivia

  • Likely because of hardware limitations, the Mario Kart: Super Circuit version of SNES Rainbow Road did not include Super Thwomps but rather standard Thwomps.
  • The newer-designed Super Thwomps look like they have been enhanced by a Starman. This would explain their ability to spin opponents around easily.
