Welcome Underground!! Are You Good At Whack-A-Mole? (ようこそ地底へ!! モグラたたきのあまいわな!?) is the seventh chapter of the first volume of Super Mario-kun. This chapter's central theme is about Monty Moles, serving as a proper introduction to them.
Plot
Mario, Luigi and Yoshi find Princess Peach, who claims to have escaped from Bowser. Mario runs to her to hug her, but Peach is revealed to be a Goomba in disguise. Angry that he has been fooled, Mario jumps on Yoshi and chases the Goomba, leaving Luigi behind. The two lose the Goomba's tracks by a pipe. Near the pipe, a sign states that it leads to the "Rich Land". Yoshi rightfully thinks it could be a trap, but Mario is already ready to collect as many coins as possible and jumps in the pipe, followed by Yoshi. Hid in a nearby bush, the Goomba laughs.
In the underground, Mario and Yoshi find a giant pile of coins, but they are suddenly attacked by a group of Monty Moles, the owners of the coins. Mario gets hammered by their mallets and then tries to escape by flying using his cape form, but hits his head on the ceiling, as he cannot escape by flying underground. Yoshi then states that he is hungry and starts eating the Monty Moles. However, a big Monty Mole named Super Choropū, emerges from the ground, as Super Choropū is furious about Mario and Yoshi killing their Monty Mole friends. Yoshi then flees, as he tells Mario that he has to fight Super Choropū.
As Super Choropū tells Mario that he will die, Mario tries to flee onto the wall (thanks to a Triangular Block), but Super Choropū is able to kick Mario, and make him crash into a ? Block. From the block, multiple Fire Flowers appear and Mario uses their power to burn Super Choropū to a crisp. The cave gets filled with smoke and Mario and Yoshi immediately exit. Luigi, who has reached the pipe, sees two black monsters popping out of the pipe and starts hammering them with a mallet, only to realize that it is his brother and Yoshi blackened by the smoke, with Mario telling Luigi that they defeated the moles.

Trivia
- Despite this chapter being the proper introduction to Monty Moles in Super Mario-kun, it was not the first appearance for them in the manga, as they previously made a brief cameo in the first chapter when Bowser was announcing about his army.
- This chapter marks the first ever appearance of a big Monty Mole in the Mario franchise.
- However, the big Monty Mole in this chapter is only a notable member of them, making Super Mario Maker the first appearance of the actual species.
- When Mario tries to steal the Monty Mole's coins, the Monty Moles attack him by using mallets. The idea of Monty Moles using hammers to attack would be revisited much later in the Mario Party 7 minigame Monty's Revenge.
- Despite Yoshi being the one who killed the Monty Moles, Super Choropū instead blames Mario for doing it and starts attacking him, despite him not being the one who killed the Monty Moles.
