The Ancient Minister escapes from Mario and Pit, fights Marth, Meta Knight and Ike in a desert, fights Mario, Pit, Kirby, Yoshi and Link in the same desert and destroys King Dedede's Castle by sending it into Subspace. However, later, Samus and Pikachu enter the factory. They reached the Ancient Minister, and prepares to fight, as seen that Samus readies her Arm Cannon, and Pikachu starts charging electricity. However, the Ancient Minister feels sorry about bringing the world in subspace, and refuses to fight with Samus and Pikachu. Samus lowers her arm cannon, and Pikachu stops charging while looking surprised, as Donkey Kong, Captain Falcon, Diddy Kong and Captain Olimar enter. The Ancient Minister still refuses a fight but then Ganondorf appears as a red hologram. The Ganondorf hologram is able to reprogram all the R.O.B.s in his side, by using a special remote-controlled button. The Ancient Minister wants to stop the R.O.B.s from grabbing Subspace Bombs, but the Ganondorf Hologram presses the button, making the R.O.B.s betray the Ancient Minister and attack him. They burn his clothes and leave the Ancient Minister burning.

The R.O.B.s then bring out Subspace Bombs and activate them. Ganondorf sends enemies (Auroroses, as seen in the cutscene) to attack everyone. But, the Ancient Minister, still in flames, shoots the Auroroses with lasers. The Ancient Minister rips his flaming clothes off, revealing what is behind the Minister's clothes. Like the other ministers, he is a R.O.B. He then decides to not destroy the world after all and teams up with the gang to stop Ganondorf. However, the gang still has to escape from the Subspace Bombs. Diddy Kong tries telling R.O.B., the Ancient Minister, to command his R.O.B.s to stop the bombs but R.O.B. shakes his head — it can't be done. Captain Falcon tells the gang to follow him.

The Ancient Minister is not seen again until Samus and Pikachu corner him at the Subspace Bomb Factory. Samus and Pikachu are ready to fight, but the Ancient Minister refuses, growing depressed at the amount of R.O.B.s sacrificed to activate the Subspace Bombs, confusing Samus and Pikachu. Soon after, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Captain Falcon, and Captain Olimar arrive, also ready for battle, but the Ancient Minister still refuses. A hologaphic Ganondorf appears, quickly realizing that the Ancient Minister has betrayed him. Using a remote-controlled button, he is able to control the R.O.B.s, ordering them to attack the Ancient Minister and activate every Subspace Bomb in the factory.
Donkey Kong grabs the minister and takes him to the Falcon Flyer where the rest of the gang is. They fly off with Meta Ridley trying to slow them down. The party is able to stop Meta Ridley from following them, and the Falcon Flyer leaves the island right as its sucked into Subspace. The Falcon Flyer lands at the desert where the rest of the party is. The Halberd, now with Snake, Meta Knight, Lucario, Princess Peach, Princess Zelda, Fox and Mr. Game & Watch on board (somehow Falco left the ship) arrives right next to the Falcon Flyer. The characters all reunite and they all fly to the Subspace Gunship and try to stop them from destroying everything. Although the Halberd is destroyed, the characters are able to survive by getting into all the other ships.

The Ancient Minister reveals himself to be another R.O.B. and, alongside the other heroes, is able to defeat the Auroros that Ganandorf summoned to defeat them. Using the Falcon Flyer, the heroes escape the Subspace Bomb Factory before all of the Subspace Bombs detonate. From this point on, the Ancient Minister, now named R.O.B, joins the heroes in the fight against Tabuu.
After Kirby destroys the Gunship with a Dragoon, the Falcon Flyer and all the other ships with everyone inside, head into Subspace where they meet up with Tabuu. Although Tabuu defeats them the first time, Luigi, Ness were revived by the Dedede badge that King Dedede put it on them, and revived the king self. The trio comes in and revived half of everyone (Kirby revived himself thanks to the Dedede badge, and revived the other half). The Ancient Minister is revived and if the player chooses him, he gets to finally fight Tabuu. The characters all defeat Tabuu and return the Smash World to peace.

History

Background

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Before the events of the game, the Ancient Minister was known as R.O.B., and he was the leader of the R.O.B. race of robots. His official title was the "Master Robot." R.O.B. and the other robots lived on the floating Isle of the Ancients and watched over this world. Indeed, R.O.B. was the overseer of this world, and was considered the world's "lord." However, this world was eventually invaded by Tabuu, an entity from Subspace. Tabuu attacked the Isle of the Ancients, killing many R.O.B.s and eventually taking the robots hostage. R.O.B. was forced to ally himself with Tabuu in order to prevent the deaths of more of his robot brethren. It was at this time that R.O.B. began to hide under his ceremonial robes of mourning and assume the name "Ancient Minister". The Isle of the Ancients was converted into a Subspace Bomb Factory and the Ancient Minister became the commander of the Subspace Army. As the commander of the army, the Ancient Minister led the invasion of this world on behalf of Tabuu.
