Giant Donkey Kong is both a standalone character and an enhanced form of Donkey Kong featured in the Super Smash Bros. series. He appears in every title, with the first being Super Smash Bros.. As with any giant character, Giant Donkey Kong is bigger than his basic counterpart, has more strength, and more resistance to knockback.
In Super Smash Bros., Giant DK is fought on the sixth stage in 1P Game. During this match, the player's fighter is assisted by two random fighters.
In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Giant Donkey Kong makes two distinct appearances. In the Adventure Mode, he appears after two Tiny Donkey Kongs, but unlike the previous game the player must fight him alone. The other appearance was in the Event Mode, in two particular events: First in event 2, where the player controls him and must defeat Tiny Donkey Kong; then in event 25 where the player must defeat him using Giant Bowser. Starting with this game, Donkey Kong can temporarily become giant by using a Super Mushroom, and during Giant Melee, Donkey Kong assumes this form throughout.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Giant DK appears in three different events:
- First he appears as a secret opponent in Event 9: "The Monster beneath the Earth". If the player does not KO the two Diddy Kongs fast enough, Giant DK must be fought as well.
- He also appears in Event 22: "Monkeys Unite", as Diddy Kong's partner, in which the player uses Diddy to defeat Sheik and Lucario.
- He is fought in Event 27: "Three-Beast Carnage" as well, alongside Giant Bowser and Giant Charizard.
