The Atari 2600 (also titled VCS, or Video Computer System) is a game console manufactured by Atari. It was originally released in America in 1977. In Japan, the system was released in 1983 as the Atari 2800.

In 1981, Nintendo, in collaboration with Coleco, released their first game for the Atari 2600, a port of Donkey Kong. Later in 1983, a 2600 version of Mario Bros. was made. Following the release of the Family Computer, Nintendo lessened their involvement with the Atari 2600, and their last Mario-related title for the system is Donkey Kong Jr., released in 1988.

The Atari 2600 uses a joystick as its controller, and it only consists of a control stick and a red button.
