In Haunted Hall, there are four Kackles, and each of them are encountered within a section that Diddy and Dixie enter through a gate and exit through the next one. Each Kackle has a uniquely colored bandanna: the first one wears a blue bandana, the second one wears a green bandana, the third one wears a yellow bandana, and the fourth one wears a red bandana. The first two are encountered before the Star Barrel while the other two are encountered afterward. None of the Kackles can be defeated.

When Diddy and Dixie enter a section with a Kackle, a timer appears at the top of the screen, and the Kongs have to quickly exit the zone before time runs out. As the timer ticks down, the Kackle inches closer to the Kongs. If time runs out, the Kackle becomes tangible and touches the active Kong, damaging them. Nearly every Kackle area takes longer to pass through than the initial amount of time given, so as a workaround, Diddy and Dixie must touch any Plus Barrel along the way to increment the timer. At the same time, the Kongs must avoid touching any Minus Barrel, as this decreases the timer.

The first Kackle area contains mostly Plus Barrels and a few Minus Barrels. The second Kackle area only contains Plus Barrels. The third Kackle area only contains Minus Barrels, but the timer is longer than in the other sections to compensate for the lack of Plus Barrels. The fourth and final Kackle area has Plus Barrels and Minus Barrels often placed near each other, requiring the Kongs to time their jumps to avoid touching a Minus Barrel.
In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest where Diddy Kong & Dixie Kong enter from his house in Haunted Hall, Kackle begins his attack against them preparing a timer and contains the Plus and Minus Barrels that one increases the time and the other decreases it. If time runs out, Kackle captures.
