The Drill (also named the Drill Express),[1] is a vehicle used by the Monty Bros. during Project K in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and its Nintendo 3DS remake Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey. As the name suggests, it is a giant yellow drill that can be used to make large tunnels.

History

The Drill is seen during Bowser's visit in the Underground Tunnel. The Drill is an important part of Project K, as it is the very vehicle that allows the underground tunnels to be made. The idea was that the Drill would go from Bowser's Castle to Toad Town so that Bowser would have an easy shortcut to kidnap Princess Peach. The Monty Bros. had already drilled to Cavi Cape, an order that Bowser did not recall giving them. However, the Monty Bros. hit a dead end when the Drill could not get past a layer of solid bedrock. Thankfully, Bowser helped the Monty Bros. tunnel through the bedrock in the way by pushing the drill, triggering a short minigame.

Inside Bowser's body, Mario and Luigi go to the Leg Outpost to stimulate Bowser's leg muscles during a short minigame in which Bowser has 90 seconds to push the giant Drill before its battery runs out (otherwise Bowser will have to pay 50 coins in-order to get a new battery). After the minigame, Bowser accidentally crashes the Drill into a wall, with him apologizing from being too carried away.
