Mawful Mole, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey

Mawful Moles are a species of Monty Mole with Fawful-like attributes that exclusively appear in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and its Nintendo 3DS remake, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey. In both of these games, Mawful Moles can be encountered as standard enemies throughout Blubble Lake. While Bowser can simply defeat Mawful Moles in the overworld by simply crushing them and earning some coins in the process, Mario and Luigi are able to engage them in battle. In addition to the standard Mawful Moles found throughout Blubble Lake, the Mawful Moles also have a stronger metallic variant that can be encountered in Peach's Castle Garden later in the game.

In-battle, Mawful Moles attack by throwing boulders at the Mario Bros., which can be easily countered by jumping over them. However, on occasion the Mawful Mole will get dirt on their face, causing them to miss their throw and instead throw the boulder over their target (making either Mario or Luigi have to stand still in order to avoid the boulder opposed to jumping over it normally). In addition, the Mawful Moles have another attack, in-which they will "wink" to signal which brother they are going to attack. After which, the Mawful Mole will dig in front of both Bros. and repeatedly pop their head out in quick succession before attempting to jump on their target in order to damage them. However, both Mario and Luigi can damage the Mawful Mole by using their hammers to whack the Mawful Mole while they are popping their head out of the ground. Additionally, the Bros. can use their hammers to also counter the Mawful Mole's jump attack by whacking them straight back to the hole they jumped out of and canceling their attack.

Mawful Moles also appear as support enemies in the giant battle against the Tower of Yikk, where a group of them sometimes repair the tower to restore the boss' health. Giant Bowser can quickly dispatch these Mawful Moles by breathing fire on them.

In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, Mawful Moles were redesigned to have the coloration and proportions of regular Monty Moles (with many of their sprites having a strong resemblance to the Monty Mole sprites from Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam). Additionally, they now take critical damage from hammer attacks. In the Tower of Yikk battle, the Mawful Moles now also have an extra line of dialogue before repairing the Tower.
