Mawful Mole, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey

Mawful Moles are a species of Monty Mole with Fawful-like attributes that are found as enemies in Blubble Lake from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and its Nintendo 3DS remake, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey. Bowser can defeat Mawful Moles in the overworld by simply crushing them and earning some coins in the process, while Mario and Luigi can engage them in battle. Mawful Moles also have a stronger metal variant encountered in Peach's Castle Garden found later in the game.

Mawful Moles attack by throwing boulders at the Mario Bros., which is countered by a jump. If the Mawful Mole gets dirt on their face, they will miss and throw the boulder really high, which will hurt the brothers if they jump, but will miss if they stand still. The Mawful Moles have another attack, in-which they "wink", showing which brother they are going to attack. This attack can be countered with the hammer, which can be done several times while the Mawful Mole is popping out of the holes until they jump over the selected brother to fall on him which causes damage. However, this attack can also be countered with the hammer, which results in the Mawful Mole being forced back in the hole it came out from.

Mawful Moles also appear as support enemies in the giant battle against the Tower of Yikk, where a group of them sometimes repair the tower to restore its HP. Bowser can quickly defeat these Mawful Moles by breathing fire on them.

In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, Mawful Moles have the coloration and proportions of regular Monty Moles (with many of the sprites of Mawful Moles having a strong resemblance to the Monty Mole sprites from Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam). Additionally, they now take critical damage from hammer attacks. In the Tower of Yikk battle, the Mawful Moles now have an extra line of dialogue before repairing the Tower. This makes Mawful Moles (along with Fawflants and technically Fawfulcopters) one of the very few Fawful themed enemies to be shown talking onscreen (though this only applies to Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, as Mawful Moles had no dialogue in the original DS version).
