Gangplank Galleon (also as Gang-Plank Galleon or Gangplank Galleon Ahoy!) was K. Rool's personal nautical cruiser where the final battle in Donkey Kong Country took place, first location in Donkey Kong Land & Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest/Donkey Kong Land 2, and interest point in Donkey Kong 64.

Hull

Gangplank Galleon is made of wooden, 3 windows with cannons on the edges of the hull, 3 riggings, sails with the Kremling Krew symbol, red semicircular flags above and below, blue triangular flags in the middle, sculpture of K. Rool's golden head in bow, flag with Kremling Krew symbol behind and Necky's nest on top of the forward rigging.

The deck is full of barrels, telescopes, cannons, bananas, crates, ropes, chests and iron buckets. The hold itself contains colonial sconces near the windows, cells with beds, cargo (barrels, crates, chests and steel barrels) and gold coins. The captain's cabin contains a colonial sconce, writing desk (with a map, rolled up message and the logbook on top), canopy bed, rug, chandelier, portraits of K. Rool (king and pirate), banner with the Kremling Krew emblem, barrel, chest, crate, sword and cannonballs.

History

In Donkey Kong Country, Gangplank Galleon commanded by K. Rool approached Kong Island to pick up half of the Kremling Krew commanded by Klump and take the entire Banana Hoard. When it reaches the coast of the island, the galleon serves as the arena for the final battle against K. Rool where Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong are the victors. After the final battle, K. Rool threatens to destroy Kong Island with cannons if the Kong Family doesn't leave the galleon and is later evacuated.[1]

In Donkey Kong Land, Gangplank Galleon arrives for the second time when Cranky Kong hired K. Rool to steal the Banana Hoard.[2] The ship was in the middle of the jungle and glaciers where DK & Diddy had the opportunity to explore until they battled the Wild Sting.

Prior to the events of the Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest/Donkey Kong Land 2, Gangplank Galleon was wrecked on rocky coast of Crocodile Isle by K. Rool for being a lousy navigator. In this game, the galleon becomes the starting point on Diddy & Dixie's journey where they explored the deck with the help of Rambi, climbed rigging, fought all the Kremlings until sunset, swam the flooded ship hold with the Enguarde's help, they meet Rattly on the stormy day and have the battle against Krow where the pair defeats him to enter the island.

In Donkey Kong 64, Gangplank Galleon wreckage was shown sunk on Gloomy Galleon along with what was left from Crocodile Isle. The doors in the back are activated by Musical Pads and the two trapdoors in the front are activated by switches from Lanky Kong & Tiny Kong.[3][4][5]

Profiles

Donkey Kong Land

  • Instruction booklet (page 15): King K. Rool's leaky old ship is crewed by his kooky Kremling accomplices.
  • Nintendo Power vol. 74 (page 12): King K. Rool's ship has dropped anchor near Donkey Kong's treehouse. Journey through the jungle and mountain highlands on your way to the gruesome galleon. The following pages examine the treacherous terrain in fine detail.
  • Nintendo Magazine System booklet (page 8): K. Rool didn't suspect a thing - not a banana - as DK and Diddy hitched a ride on his Galleon, thus leading them to his secret hideout. On this first stage of their voyage the Kong brothers soon discover that all is not so familiar. Don't forget, this is Kremling territory now, where artic conditions rest comfortably alongsode humid jungle. Most disturbing of all though is that here pigs really can fly!

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

  • Instruction booklet (page 20): Diddy's first action takes place aboard K. Rool's scuttled flagship, Gangplank Galleon. Even though this hulk isn't seaworthy, it's still manned by a scurvy Kremling crew. You'll find lots of hooks and rigging to climb on here. You can also duck into the flooded cargo hold for more fun!
  • Player's guide (page 20): Ever though it's half-sunken, the once-proud flagship of Kaptain K. Rool's fleet still server as the first line of defense against any Kong rescue party.
  • Nintendo Power vol. 79 (page 18): Ahoy! Kaptain K. Rool's flagship, the Gangplank Galleon, has run aground off the coast of Crocodile Isle (okay, so he's a pirate, not a sailor). Her deck are awash with Kremling cutthroats, but you decide to investigate, just in case. Since this is your first time doing the hero thing, you might need some help finding your way. Donkey Kong managed to leave a trail of bananas as he was dragged off, so if you ever get turned around, follow the yellow fruit to the end of the stage. Aye! Ahrr!

Donkey Kong Land 2

  • Nintendo Power vol. 87 (page 43): Avast! Kremling cutthroats are everywhere, ready to swab the deck with any monkey foolish enough to swing aboard.
