Octoombas are amphibious alien enemies which debut in Super Mario Galaxy, in which they are named Electrogoombas (Cosmic Blooper in the beta). Octoombas are very common, and they appear in several galaxies. Octoombas are a hybrid of both a Goomba and an Octorok from The Legend of Zelda franchise, and their name is even a portmanteau of "Goomba" and "Octorok."

Characteristics

Octoombas are odd-looking Goombas. They have smooth skin with a blue head and yellow spots all over their bodies. They have a round mouth, like a Snifit, and attack with a headbutt. Unlike regular Goombas, Octoombas only patrol a very small set area. Octoombas also have yellow glowing eyes and a small antenna on the top of their head.

History

Super Mario Galaxy

In Super Mario Galaxy, Electrogoombas attack by headbutting Mario or Luigi when he approaches. They can easily be squashed. When jumped on, a Coin is always left by them. If a Star Spin is used to defeat an Electrogoomba, it drops behind three Star Bits.

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Octoombas return as enemies in Super Mario Galaxy 2, the first game to name them "Octoomba". They were given a plumper appearance, and they instead spit rocks at Mario or Luigi.
