Beanstalks are growing plants found in New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. They tend to grow quickly producing leaves. The leaves only stay on the beanstalks for a period of time before falling off. The beanstalks can either grow vertically or on a curve.

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!

A beanstalk appeared in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "Mario and the Beanstalk", which in itself was a spoof of Jack and the Beanstalk. The premise of the episode involved Mario and Luigi foolishly trading Princess Toadstool's Royal Cow for garbanzo beans, which the Princess rejected by sneezing them out of Mario's hand and into the soil, due to her allergy. The beans grew into a huge beanstalk overnight, which led Mario's group up into the clouds, where they discovered an enlarged King Koopa's castle.

New Super Mario Bros. U

A beanstalk also appears in New Super Mario Bros. U. It is featured in the level Skyward Stalk. Mario must climb the Beanstalk's leaves as it grows. The leaves will fall of after some time so Mario must be quick. Waddlewings and Balloon Goombas will also hop on the leaves. The Beanstalk continues growing until the top of the level. Once the level is completed, a beanstalk will grow on the World Map allowing Mario to reach Rock Candy Mines.

New Super Luigi U

Multiple Beanstalks are seen in New Super Luigi U. They are seen in the level Beanstalk Jungle. This time, they tend to grow on different angles rather than straight up. Also, Luigi now uses the leaves to cross the chasm rather than climb the stalk. Once again Waddlewings and Piranha Plants are a common issue in the level.
