|Superstar Saga Enemy|
|Item 1 Drop||Nut (normal), School Emblem (malfunctioning)|
|Item 2 Drop|
Mecha-Chomps (also called Chomp Dogs) are mechanical Chain Chomps that Mario and Luigi encountered during the events of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. However, instead of being restricted by chains, Mecha-Chomps have dog-like bodies, and move around on wheels.
They are found in Woohoo Hooniversity, but never appear on the field, instead showing up in battle alongside Laser Snifits and Viruses. When attacking, the LED on the Mecha-Chomp's face cycles through red and green, eventually stopping on one of the two. The Mecha-Chomp then throws its head at the appropriate target – Mario if it is red, Luigi if it is green.
Once the Mecha-Chomp has been damaged, it starts to malfunction. When malfunctioning, a Mecha-Chomp reverses its targets – red for Luigi, green for Mario. Additionally, the item it drops changes while malfunctioning.
Another enemy, the Shroids in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time also malfunctions similarly.
In the remake, Mecha-Chomps were replaced with Mechakoopas.
- Mecha-Chomps may be based off Tekno the Robotic Puppy.
- Mecha-Chomps are the only enemy from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga to not return in the remake. While Cheep-Cheeps and Puffer-Cheeps were replaced with Spiny Cheep-Cheeps, the Spiny Cheep-Cheep behaves identically to them and fills the role for both enemies and is a Cheep-Cheep while the Mechakoopa is a completely different enemy.
- It has been thought that the reason for the replacement was because of "spriting issues" as in there weren't any Mecha-Chomp-like enemy-leftovers to cannibalize for parts of the sprite/model. There is no solid evidence of this however.
