Venus Ice Traps (also called Ice Piranha Plants) are a special variety of Piranha Plant first found in New Super Mario Bros. U. They are similar to Venus Fire Traps, but spit Ice Balls instead of Fireballs. Unlike Frost Piranhas, another ice-based Piranha Plant sub-species, Venus Ice Traps bear a red coloration.
History
New Super Mario Bros. U
Venus Ice Traps make their first appearance in New Super Mario Bros. U. They look and act similar to Venus Fire Trap, but shoot Ice Balls, which are capable of freezing playable characters as well as other enemies. They inhabit the world of Rock-Candy Mines, where three of them appear in the level Fuzzy Clifftop, with two in a Warp Pipe and one on the ceiling. Just like Venus Fire Traps, Yoshi can eat Ice Balls and spit them at other enemies.
New Super Luigi U
Venus Ice Traps also appear in New Super Luigi U. In this game, they appear in Frosted Glacier with the same functions.
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
Venus Ice Traps return in Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe with the exact same role as in their two previous appearances.
