Big Monty Moles[1] are enlarged Monty Moles first seen in Super Mario Maker (through notable members of them appeared prior in Super Mario-kun). They usually act like normal Monty Moles but they are much bigger.

History

Super Mario-kun

Although no normal big Monty Moles appear in Super Mario-kun, two notable members to them do. These members being Super Choropū from volume 1 and Choropūko from volume 23.

Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS / Super Mario Maker 2

Normal big Monty Moles first appear in Super Mario Maker and its two sequels as placeable enemies. In these games, they can be made by giving a Super Mushroom to a Monty Mole. In all four styles, big Monty Moles behave identically to the standard Monty Moles and also look identically to them only larger.

Yoshi's Crafted World

Big Monty Moles make their Yoshi series debut in Yoshi's Crafted World. In this game, they appear in the levels Spring Sprung Trail, Monty-Mole-B-Gone, Haunted Maker Mansion, and The Countdown Begins as semi-common enemies and are always found in the background of each level they're in, and unlike the smaller Monty Moles, they must be hit with two eggs to be defeated. Due to them appearing in the background, throwing eggs at them is the only method of defeating them in this game. When hit once, a big Monty Mole will have their fur color become red (with a similar look to that of Morty Moles from Super Mario 3D Land) but is brought down upon a second hit. Big Monty Moles often appear when a red Winged Timer Cloud is hit, and must be defeated to make a Flower appear.

Trivia

  • Two enlarged Monty Moles appear in hole 7 of Wiggler Park in Mario Golf: World Tour. However, it is unknown if they are big Monty Moles or not.
  • They are the only Monty Mole species where a notable member of them was made before their existence.
  • The big Monty Moles in Yoshi's Crafted World have a similar function to that of Morty Mole from Super Mario 3D Land, due to the both of them needing to be hit twice in order to be defeated.
